ENJOYING JESUS by Tim Chester

If following Jesus has become more about duty than delight, or if you would love a christian life that feels deeper and more alive, this book can show you how to enjoy Jesus’ presence and friendship in every moment of every day. Read this book, with the Gospel of Luke open beside you. You might find it, in the words of one reviewer, like a trip to the Caribbean for the soul. ENJOYING JESUS is the perfect companion to ENJOYING GOD, also by Tim Chester.

5: THE SOLAS OF THE REFORMATION by S. D. Ellison

Five hundred years ago, Christians across Europe turned to their Bibles to find out what had happened to God’s good news. They set out to untangle the church from the confusions of its history. In so doing, they summarised their message in five great claims, the so-called ‘five solas’. In this small book, Davy Ellison interweaves historical notes about Martin Luther and the Reformers with the five doctrines that motivated them, changed the church, changed society and, ultimately, changed the world.

THE MAN ON THE MIDDLE CROSS by Alistair Begg

This small booklet is designed for seekers, those who may be enquiring into Christianity. Alastair Begg introduces three people who had their lives changed when they met Jesus: the Samaritan woman at the well, the paralysed man who was let down through the roof, and the repentant thief on the cross. Each was given hope, restoration and a way back to God. We do not know what the thief on the cross said when he arrived in Paradise, as promised by Jesus: it could have been, ‘The Man on the middle cross said I could come’. Read the booklet, then buy one to keep on hand for a Gospel opportunity that might come your way.

FEAR IS NOT A SIN by Edward T. Welch

When life takes a turn for the worse, our natural response is fear and anxiety, even though God encourages his people many times in Scripture with the words ‘fear not’. However, as Edward T. Welch explains, those words do not imply that our fears are inherently sinful. Instead, they are an invitation from God, to go to him with our troubles. In this short book, the author removes the shame often tied to fear and shows how it can be a place where faith grows. The book flows from a heart steeped in the Father’s care, but also from the counsel of a Christian minister and qualified psychologist of over forty years experience.

THE FINAL LAP by John Wyatt

Life is a marathon with many highs and lows along the way. As we approach retirement we transition into a new stage of our race, presenting us with a range of possibilities and pitfalls to navigate. John Wyatt invites us to consider the move from work to retirement, then independent life to dependency and, finally, from life to death. Whether we are already into our final lap, or just wanting to be forewarned and prepared, there should be an encouraging word in this small book for everyone.
